Introduction: Corsair–> corsair_logo

Few months agoo we reviewed the ultra-high end gaming keyboard Vengeance K95, focused on MMOs and applications that needed a lot of macro and shortcuts. Today, we’re going to analyze its “little sister”, that wants to be the fulcrum of every single FPS player platform: the Corsair Vengeance K70, in the black aluminum/red backlighting edition.

K70

In the next weeks we’ll also take a look at Corsair K70RGB, announced during Computex ’14 and expected by September, meanwhile read our review of the “standard” version, equipped with Blue MX Cherry switches.

Corsair Vengeance K70: technical specs–>In the following table, the product technical specs, if you want to know more about it you can go on the company official website (Corsair):

Directly related to the Corsair K95, this keyboard layout is totally mechanical, installed on a black aluminum chassis. The Corsair K70 is equipped with NKRO functionality (No Key Roll Over, allowing to push as many keys as possible without input problems), and its MX Cherry Blue switches have a great feedback if you intend to use this keyboard with FPS games.

If you type a lot, well, maybe those are not the right fitting switches, since they’re characterized by a strong “click” noise. Just as the K95, this keyboard has media keys in the upper right corner, with volume and play/stop, forward and back keys. There are also preset keys for backlighting customization.

Our tests and opinions–>We tested the keyboard with photoediting software, games and using the Corsair Vengeance K70 daily:

Layout, keys disposition and keys spacing is the same we can find on the Corsair Vengeance K95. The fundamental difference is that the keyboard tested today lacks of macro keys on the left side of it, reducing size and increasing portability.

Another important difference is the switches used: while on the K95 we found Red MX Cherry switches, on the K70 this time we chose Blue MX Cherry, designed for FPS gaming as we already said. Those switches are not designed for intense typing sessions, since their click noise is pretty “strong”.

Getting on the gaming side, we tested the K70 with games like Battlefield 4, Counter Strike: Global Offensive and League of Legends.

This keyboard is perfect if you want to own enemies, since its switches are “taylored” for fast-pressing and quick response feedback. Thanks to exchangeable keys, you can choose higher-grip keys on WASD and numbers from 1 to 6, so that you can recognize under your thumbnails which keys you’re pressing even with the backlighting off or if you can’t look at the keyboard while you play.

Regarding League of Legends, the keyboard performs pretty good, even though it’s not made for MOBAs, but for FPS or Action RPG, that focus more on the keyboard rather than the mouse.

Final thoughts–> [conclusione]

[titolo]Design and build quality[/titolo]

The chassis is really solid and it has no plastic parts, differently from K95, which however has macro keys too. The design is similar to the line created by the company with its previous keyboard models, like the K60 and the K90.

[titolo]Ergonomy[/titolo]

Key spacing and layout are “game-proof”, and the exchangeable keys for WASD and 1-6 help a lot if you need more grip on the fingertips. Blue MX Cherry are made for gaming, not for typing, because of the noisy click they do when pressed. If you want a “balanced” type of switches, you can still choose the K70 with Red MX Cherry or Brown MX Cherry switches.

[titolo]Price[/titolo]

The Corsair Vengeance K70 is available for 108£ through official resellers, a higher-than-average price but the chassis is really solid and the LED backlighting are a premium many gamers will be “pleased” to pay.

According to our review, the Corsair Vengeanec K70 deserves our highest award, our Gaming Diamond Award:
